GDC Q&A Spotlight: Donna Bass, Broker

Donna Bass has more than 20 years of experience in real estate and has been a Broker Associate with Realty One NC, LLC for five years. She primarily works in the Triangle Area of North Carolina, which includes Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and all surrounding counties. Donna has been kind enough to share her experience in recommending deconstruction to her clients!

How did you get started in real estate?

I had a family member tell me one day that it would be a good license to get. He basically mandated that I get it, and I’m glad he did!

What is something you have learned about your particular area you routinely work in?

The particular area I work in is one of the best! It is an area that is a hub for big businesses and startups, which keeps the area full of people coming and going all the time. The market never slows down here. Even when the economy takes a downturn, this area stays steady!

Have you ever recommended deconstruction to a client?

Yes! I have recommended deconstruction to a husband and wife couple. It worked out very well for them. It was of great benefit to their taxes. The clients purchased an older grand home to teardown and it was my job to find a company that could complete the deconstruction process. I called Green Donation Consultants and it was a great experience and super simple process to set up.

What are two benefits of deconstruction that you feel have resonated with your clients?

The tax benefits and the feeling of helping people less fortunate are two of the great reasons clients want to deconstruct versus demolishing the property.

Anything else you would like clients to know?

I would like anyone considering deconstruction to know how easy and beneficial it was. People should always donate to the less fortunate. That should be the number one reason for deconstruction, the tax benefit that comes along with it is just a plus. People don’t realize how much is wasted each and every day. Those materials could be utilized by someone else. I always imagine if the roles were reversed and I needed the help, I’d be so appreciative of the time people would take to help me.
