How to Show Our Planet Gratitude This New Year

January is a great time to go through all your old items, do some cleaning and organizing, but it can generate a lot of waste. Between clearing out unwanted gifts, more boxes from online shopping, and old clothing, it is astounding how much we toss after November and December. However, there are ways that you can decrease your impact on the environment and start the new year off right.

Create Instead of Buy

Instead of purchasing organization bins, make your own! It can be as simple as finding some quality cardboard boxes you already have and decorating them with your flair. If you aren’t the creative type, don’t worry. What you really just need are ways to just organize your items without purchasing more plastic items. By making your own organization items, you are cutting down significantly on packaging and shipping waste!

Recycle All You Can

You can’t always prevent boxes from piling up. As much as you can, find ways to recycle used materials, including old items like furniture or clothing. Many communities have recycling programs that utilize everything from old electronics and appliances. If you can’t sell items, donate them to others. There are also many ways you can upcycle existing items you own to make them brand new!

Travel Less This Year

Many are opting not to travel this year due to COVID19. While it is challenging not seeing family and friends, some can take solace in knowing that it is benefiting the environment. Fewer cars on the road and less air travel have cut down significantly on air pollution around the nation. By choosing not to travel, you help slow the spread of COVID19 and reduce your overall carbon footprint.

Choosing deconstruction is another excellent option to show our planet gratitude this New Year. For more information, contact Green Donation Consultants at 800-870-3965.
